My Voice On a Movie Screen? - September 16, 2008

Hello All:

I was asked to cover the song "Fire With Fire" by the group "The Gossip" for a short film called "En Femme". Well it got picked up by Alpha Channel and is going to be screened tonight at the Tribeca Cinemas here in NYC! So congratulations to Aimee (aka Grandma Fun) and thank you for letting me be a part of "En Femme"!

What Are They Saying About Liza Lee? - August 28, 2008

"This haunting CD is well worth checking out."
-Scott Yanow

"Liza opens the album with a stunning lazy Sunday morning version of “Strawberry Fields Forever.” It’s so seductive that it would make Paul McCartney blush."
-Paul Zimmerman, (First Coast News)

"Miz Liza Lee has that-something. Liza Lee's gonna get you!"
-Bob Dorough, (Songwriter, singer, producer)

"From Ani DiFranco to Cole Porter...this girl has got it going on."
-WAER Radio, (Syracuse, NY)

"Phoebe Snow meets Brenda Russell"

"Uniquely Talented"
-John Marcus, (The Jazz Dimension)

"Natural, erotic, but also spiritual"
-Bruno Pollacci, (Animajazz Italy)

"The CD opens with Liza Lee slowly singing the opening line of "Strawberry Fields Forever." Her wistful delivery creates a sense of mystery because it's not evident where she will take you with the song. She is soon joined by the piano and a hint of drums. Lee is turning the familiar Beatles' song into a jazz tune. Other artists have reinvented Beatles' songs into jazz pieces with mixed results. What makes Lee's turn work is that she has stripped the song to its bare bones, allowing her to experiment with the pacing and a small combo to play with the melody. They create a song that's right for a late-night club."
-Donna Kimura, (Jazz Review)

Are you a Liza Lee "Believer"? - August 26, 2008

Hello My Friends:

As an independent artist sometimes you have to find unconventional ways to get the job done. That is why I just joined an awesome site called Sellaband!

On this site you can become a “Believer” and purchase parts in singer / songwriters that you believe in. Or as an artist you can have people buy parts in your next CD project. Once you get up to 50K (each part is $10) you get the money to make a CD.

So if you "Believe" in me and you want to buy a part in my original music CD project that would be amazing! Thank you so much for your time and all of your support!

www.sellaband.com/lizalee

Much Love,
Liza

PS – This is for my original pop music projects. This does not have anything to do with my new upcoming jazz release on “Jazz Doll” Records. The "Anima" CD will benefit “The Society For Women’s Health Research”!

A New "House" is being built! - May 8, 2008

Liza is currently working on an original music project due to be released in 2008 / 2009. "We are living in an immensely interesting time period politically (Where do I begin?), environmentally (Oh, the warming, the fumes, one in three people do not have clean water to drink on our planet.) as well as emotionally (It is the apathy that scares me the most.). I have always been a writer. I have always been an outspoken individual about many issues. Writing my own material just seemed like the natural progression in my growth as an artist.” A new "House" is being built and Liza is beckoning you to turn the key and step inside.

Jazz Doll Records Mission - April 15, 2008

Jazz Doll Records is an independent label that is operated by vocalist Liza Lee. Jazz Doll was started with one mission in mind. To put out new music with a message. Whether that message be emotional, spiritual or political. A Jazz Doll is not male nor female. A Jazz Doll is not fragile even if the outside happens to be a glossy cover or worn plastic. A Jazz Doll has valid thoughts, feelings and emotions but, realizes that you do too. A Jazz Doll does not sit idly by and let the world spin into further chaos. A Jazz Doll is a person of action. A Jazz Doll realizes that change equals growth and that growth is good. A Jazz Doll is the oldest kind of activist. An activist who expresses themselves through music. A Jazz Doll is a balance between the dark and light. A Jazz Doll is not really a doll at all.

The Story of Stuff (A Short Film) - January 7, 2008

Consume, consume, consume that is what most of us tend to do. I myself am guilty of this state of mind (drooling over the new iWhatever, the latest boots, the sheik lines of my friends new coat). Why am I this way? Why are we this way? Is it conditioning?

"Our enormously productive economy… demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of goods into rituals, that we seek our spiritual satisfaction, our ego satisfaction, in consumption… We need things consumed, burned up, worn out, replaced, and discarded at an ever increasing rate."
- Victor Lebow, 1955

This need to consume was planned and our planet is paying the ultimate price. This short film explains in basic terms.

Petition Against Hate Crimes! - November 30, 2007

My Friends & Family:

One of my closest friends sent me an e-mail urging me to sign a petition in support of expanded federal hate crimes laws after a young woman was brutally beaten by four people in Missoula, MT because she is a lesbian. I feel sick, sad and disappointed that these sorts of crimes against people continue to exist in our society. It is so out of my realm of thought that I cannot comprehend the fact that anyone would ever consider harming another person because of his or her sexual orientation. The group Forward Montana has started a petition asking that the last Democratic holdout in MT, Representative Rehberg, support hate crimes legislation. I urge you all to sign this petition and support our sisters and brothers who are only asking for the right to live in a safer environment knowing that they will be offered some form protection! I thank you for your time!

With Love & Respect,
Liza

Joey Negron's new book "1Zero9"! - July 13, 2007

I am so happy to announce the release of my friend Joey Negron's book "1Zero9"! Joey and I grew up together in Reading, Pa. Joey is one of the most kind, compassionate and amazing people that I have ever known. Below is a description of the book.

"One….Zero…..Nine…is a coming of age story that allows the reader to have an intimate look within the author’s mind set. Get to know the meaning of three numbers that will take the reader on a roller-coaster ride of laughter, sadness, anger, love, empathy and realism. The book provides a chronological order of life events that are connected, tied and branded by the numbers 1 zero 9. Plunge into the book as Joey's adolescent carnal decisions mold his early adulthood and how one tragic window opens to another portal of love and success. Accompany Joey on his humorous and triumphant life journey through the roughest years of his life. Metamorphic, Joey comes full circle and changes his lenses to see clearly a new young girl in his life. He extracts strength from his supportive community and family - just like an "alley-oop" pass in the game of basketball - and comes out on top with a "dunk". 1 zero 9 is a must-read not only for the “average Joe”, but for teenagers, parents, college and graduate students, social workers, teachers, professionals, the president of The United States and anyone else that will take the time to read."

Please support Joey by going to his site and purchasing "1Zero9"!!!

Peter Gabriel's WITNESS - May 22, 2007

Dear Friends:

Last night I went to see Damian Rice at Radio City Music Hall. Before the concert started the WITNESS group showed a video. Below is their mission statement.

Mission
WITNESS uses video and online technologies to open the eyes of the world to human rights violations. We empower people to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change.

This presentation really touched me and their mantra See It, Film It, Change It is such a brilliant yet simple concept. We cannot deny what it is that we see with our own eyes. Or will we stand idly by and let our world suffer? The choice is yours.

My love to you all. I hope to see you out there somewhere in this crazy world of ours.

With Love & Respect,
Liza

Happy Mothers Day / Support CARE's Safe Motherhood Platform!!! - May 13, 2007

Dear Friends:

I hope that you are all having a great Mothers Day! And if you don't mind I will take this moment to say happy Mothers Day to my mom (Donna Steed). Happy Mothers Day MOMMY!!! In honor of my mom the beautiful woman who made me an empathetic activist I will ask you to take two minutes of your time to sign CARE's Safe Motherhood Petition.

"Motherhood and pregnancy should be a time of great joy, but in the poorest parts of the world, motherhood can be deadly. In some countries, women have a 1 in 6 chance of dying from pregnancy-related complications, compared to as little as 1 in 30,000 in northern Europe.

We know what works. A comprehensive investment can save countless lives and help millions of women build a better future for themselves and for their families. Please join Meg Ryan in urging Congress to support CARE's Safe Motherhood Platform today."

To sign the petition please use the link below! I hope to see you out there somewhere in this crazy world of ours! Have a great Mothers Day and thank you for your time!

Love,
Liza

Save Free Internet Radio Stations! - February 8, 2007

As an independent artist one of my greatest links to the public is through Internet Radio. Many of these stations are currently in jeopardy of being shut down!

Music royalty rates were recently determined by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) which, if enacted, would certainly silence most or all of my favorite online listening services. (For most webcasters, this new royalty rate represents more than 100% of their total revenues!)

The closure of these Internet radio stations would be a loss for not only independent business owners, but also for musical artists, for copyright owners, and for listeners who enjoy the wide variety of choices available via Internet radio.

I hope that we will all contact Congress and ask them to look into this matter and initiate action to prevent it. Time is of the essence in this case!
